Sphinx
This work combines childlike vulnerability with the mask of play. The figure in a pink wig and painted “cat” whiskers — half child, half creature — becomes a modern sphinx, lying on the threshold between the human and the fantastical. The mixture of tenderness and unease is amplified by the background: a rhythm of colored circles that resemble bubbles, microscope cells, or traces of memories.
The painting explores the theme of transformation:… how we try on different roles, turning into characters to protect our inner core. Yet through the play and the mask, the gaze emerges — direct, alive, filled with inner strength.
The language of the work is layered: from dense brushstrokes to transparent stains, from earthy flesh tones to airy blues. This combination creates the sensation of a dream, in which the viewer may recognize their own stories — of memory, fear, and the joy of being oneself.
