About this artwork
The work is printed under 2 mm acrylic glass on metallic paper. When light strikes the surface, it creates a subtle pearlescent effect that enhances the impression of water, stone, and reflection.
In this series, I explore the landscape around the Zervreila reservoir in the Swiss canton of Grisons. I am fascinated by the patterns formed by rocks, water, and light, and by how reflections transform familiar landscapes into something ambiguous and open… to interpretation.
The images move between documentation and abstraction. Faces, figures, and imaginary forms seem to emerge from the reflections, inviting viewers to discover their own narratives within the landscape.
The choice of materials is an important part of the work. The metallic paper enhances depth and luminosity, allowing the image to change subtly depending on the surrounding light.
"Art is a dialogue between the artist and the world around them. Through my works, I share my love for this world, capturing its beauty, harmony or sadness and sorrow." Natalia Samsonova, a Moscow-educated painter and digital artist, living in Switzerland. She uses multidisciplinary mediums, capturing magic from reality through the lens of photography. Merging the elements of painting and photography with a characteristic optimistic color palette, she reinterprets fragments of daily existence into layered, vibrant forms. Her works, beyond surface beauty, are vessels of empathy evoking emotions ranging from joy in subtleties to the painful weight of loneliness and war.
