About this artwork
My figurative works are often layered with color, color has its own mass filling the space. I continue to explore my interest in nature beyond that space. As in the work "VANITY".
I'm trying to let the painting create itself, to create the conditions in which it will grow, become something. I'm not building the painting brick by brick like you would make a brick wall, I'm more creating the conditions and letting anything happen, and suddenly it happens.…
So I rely a lot on the nature of the materials I'm using, so sometimes it's really an exploration, like you go into a space you've never been to before and discover things you didn't know were there. It's more and more interesting to me.
Painting is about leaving traces somewhere, just as our lives leave traces in space or on walls or in the environment in which we live, and so I try to leave traces and understand the canvas as a place where you have inevitably been, where things happen, where your life happens.
