This photo is subtly linked to David Bowie's "Life on Mars?" in several symbolic and atmospheric aspects:
- Surrealist composition and atmosphere: an assembly of humanoid figures, arranged in a row, giving an impression of repetition and procession. This staging recalls a frozen parade or a society of artificial beings waiting, reinforcing a feeling of strangeness and alienation.
- Hybrid figures and alteration of the human: the characters have… smooth and inexpressive features, resembling mannequins or post-human entities. The negative graphic treatment reinforces this dehumanization, giving the bodies a spectral or synthetic appearance. The absence of facial details creates a feeling of identity emptiness, a dissolution of individuality.
- Light and inversion of reality: an unreal atmosphere evoking an inverted reality, as if the photo came from a parallel world where physical and visual laws are modified.
