Suspended between water and light, this figure seems to have forgotten time altogether. There is no destination, no urgency—only the simple pleasure of feeling the water glide across the skin, a brief pause from the noise of everyday life.
Technically, the painting embraces simplicity. Broad, confident brushstrokes describe the figure with remarkable economy, leaving room for suggestion rather than detail.… The water is built from loose, fluid marks that echo its movement, while the play of light across the body creates structure and atmosphere. Up close, the painting reveals its honesty: paint remains paint, brushstrokes remain visible. Yet from a distance, the image comes together effortlessly.

Nicole Schellekens, working under the name Nicole S. Pousset, (after my grandfather) is a Belgian painter with a background in graphic design, now based in Antwerp.
She paints with expressive, loose brushwork, blending figuration and suggestion to capture people in motion, illuminated by delicate contrasts of light and shadow.
Embracing simplicity and emotional depth, her style reflects influences from Rembrandt to Rubens while inviting viewers to pause and reflect. Her art radiates optimism, tenderness, and the quiet beauty of human connection, offering a gentle counterbalance to the heaviness of modern life.
Her paintings can now be found in both private and public collections. Today, her work is represented by several galleries in Belgium and abroad.
