About this artwork
Father, mother, and child form a family. When there are more children, it becomes a sacred family. It is a family where boys are seen as future protectors and girls as keepers of the home, warmth, and comfort. A family in which one learns to love, to value, and to build harmonious relationships. The father, as the head, bears responsibility for all.
He carries the three youngest members on his shoulders, a burden that may be the most precious and… joyful of his life. The composition is completed by the figure of an elder daughter, soon to enter adulthood, through whom the lineage will continue.
Warm, light-toned figures stand out against a gray-green sky and green earth. Executed in the Art Nouveau manner, the painting features characteristic decorative planes, enriched in places with finer brushwork.
