About this artwork
Genesis draws on the archetypal forms of prehistoric Venus figurines. The artist translates them into his sculptural vocabulary: the characteristic features are retained, but reduced to a few clear forms. Organic abundance gives way to a serene geometric order, without losing its symbolic power.
The sculpture stands between archaic memory and contemporary abstraction.… Its reduced form detaches itself from any individuality and leaves room for personal reflection.
The title Genesis refers to the origin. Whether this beginning is already given or only arises in the viewer's perception remains open.

What initially began as a personal counterbalance to everyday life developed over the years into a central component of his artistic work. Beyond formal academic training, he developed his own visual language – a cosmos that the artist jokingly calls "sculptureology." Reduced forms, clear contours, and geometric structures constitute the characteristic vocabulary of this world.
Norbert Kaluza dedicates his work to interpersonal relationships, emotions, and attitudes. The figures, often reduced to a few geometric forms, become mere vehicles for these feelings. Their anonymity makes them open to individual reflection.
The artist seeks the limits of reduction.
