About this artwork
2020, "Sunfish" - marble sculpture
This original gray marble sculpture on granite pedestal is one of the latest artworks of the skillful Bulgarian professional sculptor Ognyan Chitakov, deeply inspired by naturalism, postmodernism and abstract art. The ocean sunfish or common mola (Mola mola) is one of the heaviest known bony fishes in the world. The species is native to tropical and temperate waters around the globe. It resembles a fish head with… a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally. Sunfish are as tall as they are long when their dorsal and ventral fins are extended. This artwork is one extraordinary gray marble masterpiece and exquisite modern home décor.
"Each stone material is alive and has a soul. I never ignore it and its gravity as well. I try to give each artwork the feeling of lightness." ... by the artist

« Sculpture is my main way of thinking, my method of communication, my way of living... »
Ognyan Chitakov is an established Bulgarian sculptor whose works have featured in national prizes and exhibitions. He loves sculpture for all the elements it allows him to gather together: form, space, function, architecture, design, engineering, technology and - above all - art. He primarily produces stone works that carry ancient and sacred connections, and whose scale ranges from the modest to the monumental.
