About this artwork
With this painting I wanted to invite you into a moment of pure stillness. Standing by the water, I was captivated by how the soft light transformed the harbor into a dreamlike space, where the warmth of the sun-drenched stones in the foreground meets the cool, tranquil blues of the sea.
Creating this piece, I focused on the balance between the architectural details of the distant town and the rhythm of the boats gently swaying on the water. I use… traditional oil painting techniques, such as glazing, to build up layers of color, allowing the light to glow from within the canvas. My goal is to capture not just the physical appearance of the scene, but the specific emotion of a quiet, fading afternoon—a sense of peace that I hope the viewer can carry with them.
I painted this with professional-grade oil paints on a high-quality linen canvas, pouring my love for the sea and light into every brushstroke.

I am Elena Kuzenko (Olena Kuzenko), a professional oil painter based in Odesa, Ukraine. I completed my training at an art school in St. Petersburg, mastering classical realism, anatomy, and color theory. I am focusing on human-made art that captures emotional truth through the strict logic of light and shadow. My painting style is deeply inspired by the mastery of light and shadow found in the works of Rembrandt, the fluid brushwork of John Singer Sargent, and the atmospheric color palette of Claude Monet.
My professional achievements include winning the XX International Art Festival "MALUY.UA" in Kyiv and being published in the April 2026 issue of Arty Rat magazine. Regionally, I constantly exhibit my works in local galleries in Odessa. Globally, my artwork has been exhibited on the West Coast of California, and this upcoming autumn, two of my paintings will be proudly presented at an exhibition in the center of Barcelona, Spain.
