About this artwork
At the center of this composition is a delicate play of light contrasts, where the cool palette of a winter evening meets the warm, pulsing glow of a candle. Using oil painting techniques, I sought to convey the materiality of warmth: the golden flame not only illuminates the heroine's face but also defines the boundaries of her personal space, separating her inner silence from the bustle of the outside world. The cold, muted tones of the snowy landscape…
outside the window accentuate the fragility of this moment, highlighting a deep psychological portrait.
The Candle of Hope" is a reflection on the paradox of holidays. While the city outside is filled with lights and the anticipation of a miracle, the heroine remains alone with her thoughts. This is not just solitude, but a moment of conscious stillness. The candle flame here is the only beacon, a symbol of inner hope that continues to burn even when it is cold and deserted around. This painting is about searching for light and hope.

I am Elena Kuzenko (Olena Kuzenko), a professional oil painter based in Odesa, Ukraine. I completed my training at an art school in St. Petersburg, mastering classical realism, anatomy, and color theory. I am focusing on human-made art that captures emotional truth through the strict logic of light and shadow. My painting style is deeply inspired by the mastery of light and shadow found in the works of Rembrandt, the fluid brushwork of John Singer Sargent, and the atmospheric color palette of Claude Monet.
My professional achievements include winning the XX International Art Festival "MALUY.UA" in Kyiv and being published in the April 2026 issue of Arty Rat magazine. Regionally, I constantly exhibit my works in local galleries in Odessa. Globally, my artwork has been exhibited on the West Coast of California, and this upcoming autumn, two of my paintings will be proudly presented at an exhibition in the center of Barcelona, Spain.
