About this artwork
"The Guide" is a visual meditation on resilience and the unstoppable force of forward motion. In this piece, the owl serves as a powerful symbol of guidance—a steady presence navigating through the complex layers of life. While our path is often filled with a whirlwind of emotions, unpredictable events, and shifting shadows, the spirit within keeps us moving forward, no matter the obstacles.
The composition is grounded by two streams of warm, vibrant… light rising from below. While inspired by the humble glow of street lamps, these currents represent the internal energy and warmth that fuel our journey. Through the contrast of deep, cool tones and explosive, warm highlights, I wanted to capture the tension between the challenges we face and the resilient light that propels us toward our goals. This work is an invitation to embrace your own inner compass and trust the journey, even when the path ahead seems mysterious.

I am Elena Kuzenko (Olena Kuzenko), a professional oil painter based in Odesa, Ukraine. I completed my training at an art school in St. Petersburg, mastering classical realism, anatomy, and color theory. I am focusing on human-made art that captures emotional truth through the strict logic of light and shadow. My painting style is deeply inspired by the mastery of light and shadow found in the works of Rembrandt, the fluid brushwork of John Singer Sargent, and the atmospheric color palette of Claude Monet.
My professional achievements include winning the XX International Art Festival "MALUY.UA" in Kyiv and being published in the April 2026 issue of Arty Rat magazine. Regionally, I constantly exhibit my works in local galleries in Odessa. Globally, my artwork has been exhibited on the West Coast of California, and this upcoming autumn, two of my paintings will be proudly presented at an exhibition in the center of Barcelona, Spain.
