About this artwork
This graphite drawing captures a melancholy mood, a beautiful woman gazing at skull in a moment of “Memento Mori.” I wanted to highlight the intricate details of her crown and the skull and candle, while letting the background and borders be loose brushes of charcoal, like the transitory nature of life. By admitting the fact of death, I find that we focus on the beauty of details in life.
