About this artwork
This painting is a memory of a road trip in the Ardennes. A common, winding road that crosses fields of cows and meadows. Nothing happens except the nausea caused by the swaying car.
I like to paint things that are uninteresting but that everyone knows. You can feel the greyness and a kind of boredom on the shape of a wet, asphalted snake.
Olivier Legrain, an artist trained at Saint-Luc Brussels, is a master of gouache, acrylic, digital media, pencil, and oil, constantly blending traditional techniques with innovative approaches. He explores a plurality of styles and visual contexts, favoring light, atmosphere, and cinematic framing to create open and narrative scenes. His approach is experimental, free from adherence to a single signature style, emphasizing raw emotion. Through his works, he conveys human fragility, isolation, and unease, evoking a poetic tension between everyday reality and dreamlike worlds.
