About this artwork
This work pays tribute to an exceptional woman, Hedy Lamarr, who has left her mark on history not only as a cinema icon, but above all as a brilliant inventor. In the midst of World War II, she designed a communication system for the Allies, which is now the basis of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth that we use every day. On this salvaged construction board, the powerful and fluid gestures of the ink evoke the invisible waves that surround us and support… our modern lifestyles. The bursts of color, from black to bright red with touches of blue and pink, symbolize energy, creativity and innovation. The scattered shapes recall these waves which, although often criticized, are essential for communication and interconnection in our societies. Through this message, the artist asks: it is not technology that is the problem, but the use that man makes of it.
Olivier Toma, trained in various mediums such as painting, calligraphy and mosaic, expresses the universality of man through his art. He fuses abstract painting and calligraphic gestures, creating his own style, "Calligraphism of the Senses", using Indian ink, egg-based paint and volcanic earths. His works, inspired by different cultures and traditions, reflect an intense mix of emotions, sensations, and energies, seeking to capture the very essence of human connections.
