About this artwork
In this artist's work, the imperfect circle appears frequently, accompanied by vertical and horizontal gestures. This circle represents the Earth, our common home, the matrix of human experiences.
•
The vertical gestures evoke the path of the soul, from its existence before incarnation, through its life on Earth, to its afterlife. They thus symbolize the spiritual journey that transcends earthly life.
•
The horizontal gestures, meanwhile, represent… embodied lives, interconnecting past, present and future in a continuous flow.
According to the artist's vision, the soul incarnates to live one or more human experiences. The path of the soul goes beyond simple earthly life, which is only a tiny part of a larger spiritual journey. The vertical axis on the works symbolizes this journey, while the horizontal axis illustrates the many lives and experiences incarnated on Earth.
Olivier Toma, trained in various mediums such as painting, calligraphy and mosaic, expresses the universality of man through his art. He fuses abstract painting and calligraphic gestures, creating his own style, "Calligraphism of the Senses", using Indian ink, egg-based paint and volcanic earths. His works, inspired by different cultures and traditions, reflect an intense mix of emotions, sensations, and energies, seeking to capture the very essence of human connections.
