In "Melancolia", I explore the profound, silent weight of human introspection and the inevitable passage of time. This large-scale composition draws heavily upon the classical 'Vanitas' and 'Memento Mori' traditions. The solitary figure, anchored in a historical pose of deep sorrow and contemplation, is accompanied by symbolic… elements: withered flowers in a bottle and a magnifying glass resting on the table. The magnifying glass is not a mere still-life object, but a Stoic symbol of hyper-focused introspection—urging the viewer to examine the harsh, detailed realities of life, truth, and impermanence up close.
