About this artwork
'Pablo Martínez's pictorial procedure is akin to that of artists like Peter Doig, both interested in making "memories abstraction" on canvas, in processing memories by passing them through the sieve of consciousness to filter the fine sand, the background noise , and rescue the imprint of an elusive gesture, of a light that in its transience is indelibly engraved on our mind. On this occasion the artist shows a boy reading a book on fire in the middle…
of the forest, being absorbed by history and moving away from the earthly world.

« In my work I explore topics such as memory, ambiguity, and questions about the use of the image. »
Pablo Martinez is a promising emerging artist from Spain. His stunning paintings hover between hyper-realism and figuration. Each work is suffused with a particular intimacy, depicting characters that cannot be located within a specific time or place. Characterized by soft colors, Martinez's gentle brushstrokes are subtle without sacrificing realism.
