"He Tenido un Sueño Popero" (I Had a Poppy Dream) is a compelling self-portrait from the 2006 series, executed in acrylic and enamel on canvas. This piece is a powerful conceptual and physical exploration of the artist's self-perception, where the 'dream self' is expressed through the energetic, graphic language of Pop Art.
The painting was created through an intense, direct process: the artist placed the canvas on the easel directly in front of… a mirror, painting his reflection while posing. Crucially, the work is realised in a 1:1 scale, making the resulting image a direct, life-sized confrontation with the viewer.
Technically, the detail intentionally dematerializes as it moves away from the central focus—the face—a technique used to capture the essence of a dream or a fleeting self-image. The vibrant, geometric patterns and bold colours contrast sharply with the expressive, gestural execution, creating a dynamic tension between structure and emotion, reality and the "poppy dream.
