About this artwork
Making up myself own reflection is a painting that captures the complexity of identity in the 21st century. The work portrays a figure applying makeup, but her gaze is not directed towards a traditional mirror; instead, she looks at her mobile phone screen, while her image is superimposed upon the reflection in a street shop window. This triple layer of observation (the subject, the phone reflection, and the glass reflection) underscores the mediated… nature of self-perception in digital culture and constant social surveillance. The artist merges the human figure, resolved with a simple figurative line, with a Pop and gestural abstract background, saturated with vibrant pink and neon yellow circles. This juxtaposition of codes—the intimate ritual of beauty and the visual urban noise—creates a tension between the private construction of the self and constant public exposure. It is a work about how we make ourselves up to be seen, where the selfie becomes the new psychological mirror.
Pacorrosa Cuevas is a Spanish artist who fuses painting with technology, land art, 3D printing, and digital processes, backed by a solid training and over twenty-five years of international experience. His work navigates between the macrocosmic and microcosmic, employing techniques that reinterpret painting through virtual reality and sculpture, where color and composition interact with science and nature. His works convey a creative energy that invites us to decipher the profound connections between humanity, nature, and the universe.
