About this artwork
Drawing in colored pencils and ink on cardboard inspired by the Madonna "Mary Help of Christians", deriving from the Latin invocation "Auxilium christianorum, ora pro nobis" ("Help Christians, pray for us") which, according to tradition, was coined after the victory of 1571 against the Ottomans in Lepanto. The feast of "Mary Help of Christians" was instituted by Pius VII in 1815, but the devotion was propagated by John Bosco who chose her as the… main patroness of the Salesian Order. Similar to the Madonna Help of Christians is the cult of the Madonna dell'Aiuto. Vienna had just escaped the siege of the Turks (1683) with a victory of the Christian army attributed to "Maria Hilf" ("Mary the help"), that is to say "Help of Christians". In thanks for that victory, Pope Innocent XI dedicated 12 September to the SS. Name of Maria. The images of the Help of Christians spread to Austria, Germany and also throughout the Italian Tyrol.
« 'Beauty will save the world' by Dostoevsky is a symbolic phrase for me because of the therapeutic, magical, and mysterious content inherent in the logic of art. »
