“In fact, when painting is dying, it is always a certain painting which dies.
Thus, when the four members of the BMPT (Daniel Buren, Olivier Mosset, Michel Parmentier and Niele Toroni) affirm "We are not painters" during their first "Manifestation", on January 3, 1967, within the framework of the young painting salon , and, associating the gesture with the words, unhook their paintings, it is the death of the painting "à la papa", where the canvas… is soaked to the point of dripping with sentimentality. The four no longer want this, this sentimentality, this pretension of the painter to put his pathos before the life of the medium himself. They will take up the arms of radicalism and intransigence to get rid of it. History proved them right for a time, by loving their way of conceiving painting as a dead thing, that is to say without qualms. Then things change, tastes, fashions, moods ... Painting is a phoenix. "

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
