About this artwork
This dynamic abstract composition evokes a swirling movement. At its heart, brown organic forms symbolize fragments of wings or the bodies of birds in motion. These elements appear caught in a whirlwind, accompanied by splashes and projections of black ink that dot the white space.
The small red square functions as a colorful anchor point, a fixed landmark in this storm of movement.
The mixed media technique (I used walnut stain, acrylic, metallic… pigment, and spray paint) combines areas of solid color with drip and splash effects that reinforce the impression of spontaneity and natural force. The overall effect evokes the power of the wind and its transformative impact on everything it encounters, with the bird becoming a metaphor for perpetual motion and natural energy in action.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
