About this artwork
This work on paper evokes a winter landscape. Sometimes the snow completely covers the landscape, revealing only shades of white, gray, and blue. But the snow can also reveal glimpses of plowed fields. These textures are echoed in my abstract paintings. These minimalist abstract "landscapes" reference the great American painter Robert Ryman, known for his rigorous and formal exploration of monochrome painting.
This pictorial work, created with multiple… layers of varying thickness, also evokes the passage of time, the nostalgia for days gone by, a kind of bittersweet melancholy. In this work on paper, we also find a visual dialogue between geometric structure and random elements such as marks and splashes.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
