About this artwork
With this work, I wanted to express a feeling of inner freedom, a liberation from conventions, which is what I experience when creating in my studio!
The bright and contrasting colours, as well as the varied textures, symbolize a release of emotions, a letting go of constraints.
The blue streaks evoke free and unconstrained movement, like the wind blowing wherever it pleases. The stains and splashes reinforce this idea of an uncontrollable and… spontaneous force.
The artwork "Free As The Wind" is an abstract exploration of the concept of freedom. As an artist, I use shapes, colors, and textures to express a feeling of movement, liberation, and unpredictability.
The black frame, by delimiting an area, suggests a tension between freedom and limits.
I invite the viewer to reflect on their own definition of freedom and how they experience it.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
