About this artwork
In my youth, I often walked with my family along the narrow paths of the Swiss Alps. I have always been sensitive to the springs and streams that flow between the rocks.
In this work I explored the fusion of contrasts, where the structure of geometric shapes in blue-violet and white tones opposes the informal orange traces. It is a dialogue between structure and the unexpected, the still mineral of the mountain and the moving water of the spring.…
The source symbolizes birth, the emergence of an idea, a dream or a life. Just like water that finds its way despite obstacles, our aspirations and ambitions can spring forth and grow, even from the most arid terrains of our mind.
The title of this work is inspired by a text by the Swiss poet Philippe Jaccottet.
For Jaccottet, the idea of passage is important, I seek visually to establish a passage between structure and chaos, between calm and agitation.

Originally from the tranquil scenery of Switzerland, Patrick Piccinelli set forth on an enriching academic journey that took him to the distinguished corridors of ECAL (University of Art and Design, Lausanne, Switzerland), a stronghold of artistic brilliance on the global frontier. The respected tradition of flawless typography for which Switzerland is famed, coupled with the deep-seated influences of Swiss graphic design, known for its austere, minimalistic, and refined aesthetics, significantly guided Piccinelli’s artistic path. His palette is firmly rooted in geometric minimalism, a stylistic reverberation reminiscent of the illustrious “Zürich movement.” This era of artistic zeal was pioneered by notable figures such as Max Bill, Richard Paul Lohse, and Verena Loewenberg, luminaries who were the frontrunners of geometric or constructed artistry. His works have recently been acquired by collectors in the United States, Japan and Europe.
