About this artwork
For me photography is a creative tool to visualise what is hidden, just like the abandoned office building in this work. Its façade, full of squares in different sizes, immediately attracted me. Large concrete elements are subdivided by small square tiles and windows. A courtyard has the same elements, but was overgrown by trees. In my studio I superimposed the clean outside façade with the courtyard and masked out some of the elements. The image…
that finally emerged has surreal qualities, with trees taking over and growing in and out of the windows. In this way it is a joyful hommage to the hidden beauty of the office complex that is no more, as the building was recently demolished. Rhythm and geometry always inspire me to shoot architecture, but in this case I successfully combined it with patterns of nature.
