About this artwork
Like an old black and white movie, the grey tones of this painting are used to heighten the dramatic content. The artist suggests the cozy relationship between business and world leaders in a Cold War atmosphere that threatens mass destruction. Meanwhile, the public, the smiling figure in the lower right, looks on with complacency, seeing a clear road ahead. As in the 1960s, when this painting was made, the artist’s message is still relevant today.
