About this artwork
The artist continued to experiment with different materials and techniques in order to make the overpainted visible in his works. He recognized that what has been painted over does not simply disappear, but forms a kind of background that can be integrated into the new picture. The diary pages he painted over became an important element in his works, creating an additional layer of meaning.
The word "double mother" in the outer area of the image… seems incomprehensible at first glance, but it could provide a connection to the prehistoric excavations. Perhaps it refers to an artifact depicting a double mother, or a mythological figure associated with fertility and childbirth. The artist leaves the viewer room for their own interpretations and thus creates an open structure that stimulates reflection.

Peter Backhaus is an award-winning artist based in Sweden whose paitnings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Luxembourg, Germany, Denmark, and China. He describes his works as being created in a space that lies between "intellectual thinking and uncontrolled instinct". Backhaus' refers to his compositions as inner pictures with no purpose, where "total silence and total chaos co-exist".
