About this artwork
The title of this still life comes from the vase itself (discovered by the artist in a flea market), and tulips are chosen as the he considers they possess suitable Art Deco combinations of shape, line, edges and curves. The colour scheme echoes the black, green and silver frequently seen in 1920’s and 30’s design; occasional angular and separated brushwork and tones aim to add an extra hint of the post cubist design style.

« My work is original and authentic and is developing from the people, places, objects, or experiences I encounter in my life, from formal representation to creative abstraction. »
Peter Holt describes his work as always being representational in one way or another. The painter, who is based in the United Kingdom, creatively develops his compositions from an original observation of reality. Holt's artistic approach exploits the essential qualities of the medium in order to achieve a unity of materials, technique, and subject. He often experiments different techniques for subjects, which leads to a variety of interpretations and variations on a particular theme.
