About this artwork
Inspired by a detail from Sandro Botticelli's Primavera painting (from a book found at a flea market) the painting is about coming of age into adulthood for Annika (the subject, and model, for the painting). The central figure of Annika has pale, colourless and vague shoulders but as we follow her form upwards more definition, detail and full colour emerge, to suggest growth into self actualisation. The Mayflower crown also symbolises the transition…
from spring into summer. The whole composition echoes the ikon of Orthodox tradition and is presented in a gold coloured frame (overall dimensions: 45 x 45 x 3 cms)

Credentials
- Works on commission
« My work is original and authentic and is developing from the people, places, objects, or experiences I encounter in my life, from formal representation to creative abstraction. »
Peter Holt describes his work as always being representational in one way or another. The painter, who is based in the United Kingdom, creatively develops his compositions from an original observation of reality. Holt's artistic approach exploits the essential qualities of the medium in order to achieve a unity of materials, technique, and subject. He often experiments different techniques for subjects, which leads to a variety of interpretations and variations on a particular theme.
