This painting, 'Cecilia Bartoli', is inspired by the famous soprano Cecilia Bartoli. The soprano uses her mouth for singing and thereby transforming her voice into an instrument.
The artist loves comic books. While making this painting, the comparison with Bianca Castafiore, as drawn by Hergé, occurred to him. Therefore the silhouette of Bianca Castafiore can be seen in the background, at the right.
The 1st additional photo is a cutout of Cecilia's… face; the 2nd show her beautiful eyes. The 3rd shows Bianca Castafiore on the background of Cecilia's mouth; the mouth with the musical notes symbolises the singing.
The 4th additional photo magnificently shows the high tone that is produces by the soprano, nicely symbolised by the open mouth and the wide-open eyes. The last shows the signature of the artist: PK, with a small horse. PK stands for Peter Koelman as well as for 'Paardenkracht', Dutch for 'Horsepower'.
