About this artwork
A tiny cat in a garden with gigantic and golden plants, it is a tribute to Bill Traylor painter and American homeless, born a slave in the 19th century and known for these small formats painted in the street. His animals, stylized with tenderness and genius, are today in art brut museums.
William "Bill" Traylor (April 1, 1854 - October 23, 1949) was a self-taught African-American artist from Lowndes County, Alabama. Born a slave, Traylor was a sharecropper… for most of his life after the Emancipation Proclamation. It wasn't until after 1939, after moving to Montgomery, Alabama, that Traylor started drawing. At 85, he used a pencil and a piece of cardboard to document his memories and observations. From 1939 to 1942, while working on the sidewalks of Montgomery, Traylor produced nearly 1,500 works of art. (Source Wikipedia)

Philippe Abril is an award-winning French painter who has exhibited in both solo and group events nationally. Within his works, he conveys his amazement of having ‘landed on this fabulous planet’. Abril’s naive narrative paintings are mostly made using acrylics, as its fast drying qualities give him the freedom to mix other mediums more easily.
