About this artwork
"The Origin" is Rude's cube. I tamed it in 2014. It is made of steel. It has become my Artistic DNA. The majority of my sculptures are of this DNA. you will find all or part of it.
I first built it from a perfect cube measuring 11 centimeters on a side, then I hit it with a violent blow from a sledgehammer in one corner, a trauma from my childhood generating suffering, but also great resilience. . Philippe Rude, raised among stained glass and artistic ironwork, is a contemporary sculptor and conceptual artist. Working mainly with stoneware and earthenware clay, he masters a unique technique combining terracotta and colorimetric experiments at high temperatures. He creates a timeless style, traveling between eras and artistic movements through his flagship work, Rude's cube, which he describes as an "autobiography". His works are not only aesthetically pleasing, they aspire to provoke a liberating emotion, a powerful emotional catharsis.
