About this artwork
On Sicily history has a presence like in few places. The Romans, the Greeks have left us mosaics and architecture to admire. The sea, the sun, the olives, the drought, the colors created by the volcanos. All this and so much more is the basis of this series of paintings.

Pia Andersen's works have been featured in solo exhibitions in her native Denmark, as well as in the United States, Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, Norway, and Germany. Nature and light are her principal inspirations, though she does not seek its realistic portrayal. Instead, Andersen's paintings create a nature of their own, highlighting the positive side of living. Her artistic process is lengthy, as she takes her time building up many layers of oils on canvas.
