About this artwork
An abstract and geometric composition following a trip to Agrigento on the southern coast of Sicily, this second visit strongly impregnated the artist's imagination due to the chaos of the ancient architecture which dominates the site.
The canvas was produced over two years, 2019 and 2020. It was exhibited in Paris in April 2022 just after confinement at the Mona Lisa Gallery on rue de Varenne. Agrigento is the town of Saint Calogero in Sicily,… but it is also the title given to one of his paintings by a famous painter who died in Antibes, it is a magic binder.
Signed and certified by the artist's workshop in Suresnes.
« It is the reflection not of a visual reality but of an invention that translates a deep feeling for nature that resonates with what is most intimate within me. »
Pierre Calogero is an artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. He cites geometry, colors, and the search for harmony as being the main themes of his artistic practice. Calogero's bold abstractions are created with natural pigments mixed with acrylic binders and water. He also employs brushes and squeegees, working the surface of his canvases with crumpled paper because, for him, the relationships of density, materiality, brightness, or mattness between colored surfaces are essential.
