About this artwork
Unique composition on two canvases of the same size: 116 cm x 89 cm
This is a diptych that can be hung as a single canvas or two separate canvases
a slight space. SUITES refers to musical suites, i.e. a series of dance tunes written in the same key. Composition inspired by the collage technique
an ancient practice of the artist. It is a matter of leading the eye astray, of disorienting it so that it takes
his time. What animated the artist was… freedom more than will, it was also to avoid
that shapes and colors are not gratuitous but that they produce a visual effect obtained
by the balance of all the parts patiently worked out so that a feeling of harmony remains. Here the dissolution of the geometric pattern is voluntary, only the energy is in control, the composition remains in balance, the colors approach monochrome.
Selected for the next 2024 Autumn Salon in Paris.
« It is the reflection not of a visual reality but of an invention that translates a deep feeling for nature that resonates with what is most intimate within me. »
Pierre Calogero is an artist based in France whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. He cites geometry, colors, and the search for harmony as being the main themes of his artistic practice. Calogero's bold abstractions are created with natural pigments mixed with acrylic binders and water. He also employs brushes and squeegees, working the surface of his canvases with crumpled paper because, for him, the relationships of density, materiality, brightness, or mattness between colored surfaces are essential.
