About this artwork
In 2015, gravitational waves were detected for the first time — faint ripples traveling across the fabric of space.
The Gravitational Doors hold that idea of disturbance.
Each door is a threshold: a surface shaped not only by the hand, but by falling, tilting, turning. Paint moves as matter moves — drawn downward, pulled outward, held in suspension. Gravity becomes collaborator.
Some doors rest against the wall. Others stand in space, asking to be… circled. They do not describe the cosmos; they echo its motion.
A door suggests passage.
But here the crossing is uncertain —
This piece channels the raw energy of gravity pulling us into unknown depths. Using acrylic, I aimed to capture a cascade of forces in motion—dynamic, unpredictable, and compelling. The contrasts and fluid patterns bring a magnetic energy that will ignite any space, inviting viewers to feel the tension and flow of falling through both chaos and beauty. It’s a bold dance of strength and vulnerability.
Pierre Leichner, with a background rooted in both medicine and fine art, works across sculpture, painting, installation, BioArt, and video, blending scientific inquiry with poetic sensibility. His technique embraces organic materials, layered abstraction, and time-based processes, often inviting natural phenomena as collaborators. Playfulness and surprise give way to deeper ecological and socio-political meaning through engaging participatory works. Pierre’s art evokes vulnerability and resilience while inspiring reflection and a profound sense of interconnection between humanity, nature, and community.
