About this artwork
At first glance, Alfagate appears to be an every day sunlit roadside scene — where the architecture, road, and nature converge under an intense blue sky. I was drawn to the balance between the structured presence of the gatehouse walls and the powerful organic forms of the trees, which seem to dominate the environment with their living energy.
However, this work is not intended to be a straightforward landscape. As I developed the painting, I began… embedding subtle presences within the foliage and shadow. Human-like faces and animal forms emerge gradually from the trees, almost as if the landscape itself is observing the viewer. These elements are not immediately obvious; they reveal themselves slowly, encouraging prolonged looking and a shift in perception.
