About this artwork
In this painting I explore the atmosphere of classic film noir through the character of Clara. She walks away from a glowing motel entrance into the cool night air, leaving behind a moment that feels unresolved. The scene is deliberately ambiguous — the viewer is invited to imagine what has just happened, and what may happen next.
I was interested in capturing the tension between warm artificial light and the quiet darkness of the night street.… Reflections on the wet pavement and the stark motel sign create a cinematic setting in which Clara appears both confident and enigmatic. The figure in the doorway remains a silent witness, suggesting that the story extends beyond the frame.
Rather than telling a complete narrative, I wanted to paint a suspended moment — a fragment of a larger story that exists just out of sight.
