About this artwork
Wild poppies are always a sign of spring in Jordan, Palestine and the Levant. They are also symbolic of the blood shed and the lives lost at war. This painting was inspired by a field of poppies I walked through that was surrounded by a barbed wire fence. The metaphors swam in my head but I chose to make the fence broken and to allow hope to prevail.
Reem Mouasher paints the Levant from nostalgic memory—vivid, layered, and alive. A lifelong artist with a BFA in Studio Art and Art History, Mouasher channels the emotional landscapes of Jordan and Palestine into bold, expressive paintings that blur the line between abstraction and landscape.
Through textured brushwork, palette knife sweeps, and bursts of splatter and drip, her compositions capture the essence of place—sun-drenched hillsides, fleeting scents, distant conversations—with a dreamy, luminous energy. Her work merges the freedom of abstract expressionism with the mood of impressionist landscapes, evoking rootedness and a quiet, optimistic longing.
