With the cutouts, I explore the deconstruction of historical images. Here, I'm showing a six-part work, each individually framed in a decorative frame. In addition to the structure of the cutouts, depending on the light, there's a shadow effect created by the remaining paper strips. This creates an almost 3D depth.
The motif is a historical photograph of the city wall in Beijing. The building under construction becomes a delicate network of lines… and structures, reflecting the energy flows of the situation through the neon-colored paper on the underside of the frame. I combined the building with the quote from Van Gogh's Starry Night.
The work has external dimensions of 6 x 102.5 x 72.5, the object frames have a depth of 4 cm.
