About this artwork
In this painting, I wanted to convey what cannot be seen, but is sensed: the life that breathes beneath the hill, in the secret heart of the White City. The houses pile up like thoughts, like memories layered over time, building a city that is not a real place, but an internal state.
I work by superimposition and subtraction: the spatula-applied plaster creates the irregular skin of time, the veiled white of the houses is born from a fragile light,… while the sky, animated by greens, yellows and blues, is not a backdrop but an emotional presence.
The precisely engraved black mark draws the architecture like a mental map: a city that exists both in space and in memory.
Sotto la Collina is a reflection on the silent weight of inner cities, on the way places inhabit us even when we no longer see them.
This work is part of the series La Città di Sasso, a cycle dedicated to the emotional landscapes of living and the architecture of the soul.
I'm a self-taught painter, and what sets me apart is my free and instinctive use of color, which in my work is layered to create dense textures and crowded urban landscapes. I began with more spontaneous and light-hearted works, then evolved towards a more conscious and critical approach. At the same time, I explore abstraction with works inspired by Pollock and Rothko. My Cities are born from abstract foundations. The City as a complex organism that reflects the contradictions of our time. My series explore three great fragilities: the vulnerability of cities to climate change, the wounds inflicted by man through wars and manipulated ideologies, and the inequalities between glittering centers and forgotten peripheries. I paint universal, non-geographic cities as a metaphor for the human condition: places that bear the hopes, scars, and tensions of our time.
