About this artwork
Untitled (Orange Flag No. 1) was born from a process of layering materials and colors. I built the surface with plaster and stucco, creating an irregular and vibrant base, then layered glazes of yellow ochre, orange, and diluted dark gray.
While drying, I forced the paint with heat, causing small bubbles and tensions on the surface: unpredictable signs that tell of time, material, and the action of the gesture.
In the center, I've inserted my usual… off-center rectangle, an orange "flag," which emerges as a visual signal, a silent yet intense presence. It's a simple, almost minimal element, yet capable of creating balance and tension in the pictorial space.
This work continues my research on layered surfaces and the contrasts between background and sign, between structure and symbol, transforming color into a field of energy and memory.
I'm a self-taught painter, and what sets me apart is my free and instinctive use of color, which in my work is layered to create dense textures and crowded urban landscapes. I began with more spontaneous and light-hearted works, then evolved towards a more conscious and critical approach. At the same time, I explore abstraction with works inspired by Pollock and Rothko. My Cities are born from abstract foundations. The City as a complex organism that reflects the contradictions of our time. My series explore three great fragilities: the vulnerability of cities to climate change, the wounds inflicted by man through wars and manipulated ideologies, and the inequalities between glittering centers and forgotten peripheries. I paint universal, non-geographic cities as a metaphor for the human condition: places that bear the hopes, scars, and tensions of our time.
