About this artwork
Large-format stencil art
“Night Fever” is part of a large-scale series in which mythological figures are transposed into contemporary contexts. The depicted figure is reminiscent of an ancient god or philosopher – timeless, idealized, archetypal. But instead of a laurel wreath or scepter, it wears modern headphones, isolated from the outside world, immersed in sound, rhythm, and self-awareness.
The suspended disco ball alludes to contemporary… nightlife, ecstasy, and collective rituals. It becomes the modern equivalent of ancient divine attributes: a symbol of community, intoxication, escapism, and the dissolution of identity. The pink bubblegum held to the mouth appears as a frozen gesture—between breath, speech, and bubble—an emblem of fleeting moments, social media filters, or the fragility of digital self-images.
Rike Wölke is a German painter and visual artist with a background in industrial design and decades of professional experience. She works on a large scale, using vibrant neon colors, a wide variety of materials, and experimenting with multifaceted techniques that create dynamism and depth. Her style is characterized by layering, contrasts, and expressive structures in which fractures and emotions become visible. Her works touch and move viewers, reflecting love, transience, and inner conflicts—powerful, intense, and full of life.
