About this artwork
Few plants embody such joie de vivre as the red poppy. It radiates color and is visible from afar. It symbolizes love and passion, yet it is fragile. When picked, it immediately sheds its vibrant, yet fragile, petals. Self-love is often just as fragile. When self-love is severed from its roots, one can watch as its radiance fades and decay sets in.
Rike Wölke is a German painter and visual artist with a background in industrial design and decades of professional experience. She works on a large scale, using vibrant neon colors, a wide variety of materials, and experimenting with multifaceted techniques that create dynamism and depth. Her style is characterized by layering, contrasts, and expressive structures in which fractures and emotions become visible. Her works touch and move viewers, reflecting love, transience, and inner conflicts—powerful, intense, and full of life.
