Paris, Luxembourg Gardens. The photographer's deliberate movement shakes the landscape, giving it a tremor that gives it its pictorial dimension. A couple is out for a walk here. The colors are autumnal, but the overall tone is rather light and bright, and through the foliage we can see a patch of blue sky and fair-weather clouds. Autumn is showing its first splendors here. This photo could celebrate romantic happiness. And yet, the mythology of… autumn rubs off on the story of this couple and on the narrative of this photo. A whiff of finitude (of "vanity" in the sense given to it by literature and painting) hangs over these "happy days," as in Prévert's poem ("Oh! I would so much like you to remember / the happy days when we were friends"). Autumn could only speak of "dead leaves."
Robert Bared, photographer, knows how to welcome urban surprise to create a universe that is both meticulous and spontaneous, both harmonious and sensitive. He excels in particular at photographing Paris in the rain, transforming Street Photography into Fine Art. And he has learned Cartier-Bresson's lesson: he photographs with his head, his eye and his heart.
