About this artwork
These 2 young homeless people were in this position when I saw them, near the Place du Châtelet, in Paris. It was December, it was cold, and they were huddled against each other, to warm their bodies and hearts. The young man was using one of his bags as a pillow and had written on a piece of cardboard: "HELP US PLEASE 1 €. 2 € OR 1 MEAL TICKET. THANK YOU". I crouched down to talk to them, with my camera clearly visible, and told them that I found…
them beautiful like this, together, and I asked them if they would agree to me taking a photo of them, from behind, without anyone being able to recognize them. I also asked them not to change position. They both agreed. He only insisted that we not see his face. I showed them their photos after quickly taking 3 shots. Of course, I put coins in their cup, with a warm thank you. And I was moved: These homeless people had taken up residence next to each other.
