As well as growing up with David Bowie, I grew up with Queen.
They both seemed to be on the chart music show 'Top of the Pops' every other week and, sometimes, at the same time. Small wonder, then, that in 1980 they made a single together, the anthemic 'Under Pressure'.
Like Bowie, everyone liked Queen when I was at school - punks, teds, mods, New Romantics... In December 1980, an assorted minibus of said youth groups were driven by my form tutor,… Mr Whelpton, to Wembley Arena to see Queen. I found the ticket the other day. It was a staggering £4.20.
My reverence for front man Freddy Mercury extended to taking off Queen's 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' video with two of my friends, Ross and Sayer, dragged up as the two girls in the video, for my Christmas 1980 school concert.
Hence this composition. Lots of memories converge here. :-)
