About this artwork
My practice examines how power, identity, and culture are assembled and exchanged. I portray ritual objects, crowns, masks, and hybrid faces as recurring signifiers—not static emblems but active participants in negotiated histories. Central to this inquiry is an examination of early slavery and how it laid the groundwork for the accumulation of wealth: how labor, extraction, and systems of visual authority were coded into economic value and cultural… capital. Sources range from Surrealist juxtaposition and folk narrative practices to tribal ornamentation and early modern colour experiments; these influences shape a visual language that places mythic and everyday forms in persistent tension.
Taken together, the work presents a sustained inquiry into cultural hybridity and the mechanics of representation. The paintings convey complex relationships between claim and belonging, spectacle and intimacy, inherited narratives and personal memory.
