About this artwork
Antihero is structured through a set of tense relationships between figures and space. The elements are not arranged hierarchically in a traditional sense, yet they establish a shifting balance in which each part conditions the others.
The foreground figure introduces weight and scale, while the secondary figure redirects the reading toward the background. Between them, a visual path is constructed that does not follow a closed narrative, but an… open structure.
The painterly gesture does not interrupt the image, it activates it. Marks, shifts, and changes in register generate an internal rhythm that sustains the composition.
The antihero is not defined by the absence of action, but by position: it does not dominate the scene, yet articulates it from within, as part of a system where every element carries weight and function.

Roberto Gutiérrez Currás (1974, Seville, Spain) is a painter based in Marbella, represented by Galería Nítido.
She has held solo exhibitions in Spain and Mexico, including at the Ralli Museum (Marbella) and the Museum of Anthropology in Xalapa (Mexico). Her work has been presented internationally in New York, Paris, Shanghai, and Mexico City.
He has been a finalist in various painting awards, including the Juan Francés National Prize (2025) and the Almuzara Prize (2022).
Her recent work focuses on painting as a process, exploring the instability of the image through layering, transfers, and material intervention.
